Four Activities To Keep You Busy When In Bed With The Flu

Oh, no, you’ve got the flu! You are going to have to miss days of work or classes, and there’s nothing you can do about it. This is a worst case scenario for many busy people, whether they are college students, busy executives, or just caught in the nine to five world of making ends meet and paying the bills. However, there are some things you can do to keep current, even while you are stuck at home in bed with the flu.

The first thing you can do to keep on top of your normal schedule, even though you are in bed with the flu, is to ask someone to bring you your mail. Yes, this sounds simple and obvious, but many times people do not feel up to walking to the mailbox while they are ill with the worst days of the flu. Having someone bring your mail to you means that, even if you are confined to the bed or the couch, you can still pay your bills and keep current on your correspondence. Also, if you often deal with mail as part of your job, ask a coworker or friend to bring you this work correspondence, too. If you can still sort and respond to this work mail, it will greatly reduce the amount of backlogged work you will have waiting for you when you return to your job.

If you are a college student, call your friends and professors to get your homework assignments. No one wants to return to class to find that they have a fifty page essay due tomorrow! Keeping up with your homework might not be easy, but it is important to try. You can do your assigned reading, and ask a fellow student to email his or her class notes to you. This way, you won’t fall behind too much in your studies.

Another way to use the time you are stuck in bed with the flu is to catch up on your reading. So many times, we all pick up a book and don’t finish it, or buy a book that looks great or has been recommended by a friend, and we don’t have time to read it. The flu gives you time to catch up on all those great books you have been putting off reading. Not only will you enjoy some terrific stories, this will also help the time to pass more quickly.

Finally, one last thing you can do while you are down with the flu is to sort through those piles of paper that stack up around the house. We all have places where loose papers tend to collect. We put things there and say that we will sort through it later. Well, having the flu is a perfect time to take care of these papers. It isn’t difficult work, and you can sit down while you do it. After you are done, you will certainly feel like you have accomplished something despite being stuck home in bed with the flu.
